Part I: The Method.
Clearly summarize your method by identifying the steps you would use to approach your specific sub-problem, including where you would apply specific LOs.
Include your systematic method as a flowchart, outline, or list of bulleted points (this should not be a narrative, and should not include any additional content
not included in the narrative section below). (Note: Refer to Activity 1 in Session 10 for an example of how to outline your strategy/process).
Part II: Application.
Apply your systematic method by characterizing and proposing solutions for one of the topics listed. Research and learn about the problem and then apply
the Problem Solving LOs to propose solutions. This narrative portion of your assignment should include three sections (100-300 words):
1. Introduction: Introduce your problem and summarize the issue as you understand it based on your research.
The UAE is experiencing a water scarcity crisis due to overuse of its finite freshwater resources. Water consumption in the UAE has more than doubled since 1990, while population growth has added pressure on existing resources. High temperatures and low rainfall have further exacerbated the situation, leading to severe water shortages in some areas. The lack of adequate water management means that much of the available water is wasted due to inefficient or inadequate treatment processes and infrastructure.
2. Proposed Solutions: Apply specific LOs to propose solutions for addressing this issue (this can include actions individuals can take, policies that could be implemented, etc.).
Individuals can conserve water through everyday activities such as using efficient appliances, fixing leaky faucets, minimizing shower times and using recycled greywater for landscape irrigation./ Governments must focus their efforts on improving existing infrastructure to ensure safe drinking water availability throughout the country and avoid contamination from waste products entering waterways./ Policies should also promote sustainable development practices including reducing reliance on groundwater sources by implementing plans for desalination or other alternative freshwater sources./ Finally, governments must prioritize public education about conservation methods and reinforce these with incentives for compliance such as tax credits or rebates for those who adopt eco-friendly practices.
3. Conclusion: Summarize the proposed solutions you have identified above and explain how they might contribute towards a long-term solution for this sub-problem(if applicable).
In conclusion, by focusing efforts on individual level action alongside policy changes aimed at improved infrastructure systems while promoting sustainable development strategies such as desalination projects could help mitigate future risks associated with continued overexploitation of limited freshwater resources in the UAE. With effective implementation of these recommendations, we may be able to reduce current levels of water scarcity in order to protect both people’s health and our natural environment in the long term
