Visual Analysis & Historical Contextualization

- Write a paper that scrutinizes the visual or formal appearance of an artwork, on the one hand, and objectively situates it in historical, geographical, and cultural contexts. - Choosing the subject: Class on September 8, Thursday was replaced with individual visits to the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston (MFAH). Students must choose one artwork from the previously provided list of 30 works as the subject of their Paper I. My selection is Sor Aqua (Venetian), 1973 - Robert Rauschenberg. Body paragraphs: -describe what your artwork looks like -visual analysis: describe techniques used by the artist to convey certain parts of the artwork to the audience. - historical analysis: what was happening during this time, how is the themes of this artwork significant. - Format: approx. 3–5 pages (cover page not included); all four margins of 1 inch (2.54 cm); double-spaced; paginated; Times New Roman typeface; 12-point font. - Punctuation, footnotes, and bibliography must follow either the Chicago Manual of Style, 17th edition, or the MLA Handbook, 8th edition. - Bibliography at the end.
