What to do: Apply your understanding of the content you’ve learned in “to define rhetorical appeals in argumentative writing.”
Find one example of a type of argument (i.e. deliberative, forensic or epideictic) in the form of an online article or essay. It should be from a quality source. Read the article using the SQR3 technique: 1. Survey the text in advance. 2. Form questions before you start reading. 3. Read the text. 4. Recite and/or record important points during and after reading. 5. Review and reflect on the text after you read.
After you have completed critically reading the article, write a 2 paragraph response that illustrates how the article relates to you or something that has occurred in your life. Paragraphs should consist of approximately 3-5 sentences. You should define the type of argument your article exemplifies.
The importance of this prompt is to learn to be attentive to the different kinds of arguments and argumentative tools that are described in the TED video.
