Think of a company or organization you’re familiar with, perhaps one you’ve worked for or even a place of worship or school.
What kind of organizational structure does the organization use?
What other structures discussed in the chapter might allow the organization to operate more effectively? For example, would the move to a product team structure lead to greater efficiency or effectiveness? Why or why not? +500 words
A product team approach involves organizing teams around products or services rather than functions which encourages collaboration between different disciplines like engineering, design and marketing in order to develop innovative solutions quickly. This approach has many advantages over a traditional functional model – it increases agility as teams no longer need approval from other departments before making decisions; innovation can take place faster since resources aren’t tied up waiting for approvals; communication across different areas is improved since everyone works together on one project; and morale among staff tends to increase as they feel part of something bigger than just their individual role/function.
However, there are some challenges associated with implementing this type of model such as needing additional management staff who understand how product teams work in order for them to succeed; ensuring that team members stay focused on delivering results rather than getting sidetracked by competing priorities; ensuring accountability amongst team members so work gets done without anything slipping through the cracks; determining how resources should be allocated across multiple projects within a product team setup; providing adequate training so everyone understands what’s expected from them when working within cross-functional teams etc.. Overall though if implemented correctly this kind of structures could help organizations achieve better results compared with traditional structures because information flows freely throughout the organization allowing ideas to flow more easily resulting in improved performance overall.
