The legitimacy of equal representation has been debated since its formation; however there have been very few changes made to its structure or voting power allocation. Many scholars argue in favor of greater representation from developing countries on behalf of those nations who lack influence on global affairs. As such, reforming this institution should focus primarily on establishing transnational and regional voices within it through either enlarging membership size or introducing new mechanisms for decision-making that reflect different worldviews.
The Global South has traditionally been underserved by current structures at both domestic and international levels due to their weakened economic position compared to industrialized countries; hence why reform must prioritize increased recognition within international bodies such as the UNSC where decisions affect them directly. An approach which focuses on regional interests may be best suited here; allowing regions such as Africa, Latin America & Caribbean (LAC) among others to strengthen their collective voice when discussing global issues like disarmament or conflict resolution in their area of responsibility instead of having individual states without much say present in debates currently held at major summits dominated by developed superpowers' perspectives..
Regionalizing reforms do not exclude but rather promote further democratization processes taking into account cultural differences between states while ensuring complementarity between local customs/traditions/values with multilateral solutions proposed by supranational organizations like the UN . A combination of philosophical analysis , economic reasoning , political dynamics , religious values along with academic input from experts can all help construct viable evidence-based policy proposals that balance both global stability & human rights protection along with providing equitable representation for those who are often excluded because they feel powerless when advocating for change . Such an approach could result in more effective engagement from all stakeholders involved thereby better addressing challenging contemporary topics like climate change & refugees’ crisis amongst others .
