Case study
Leadership does not happen in a vacuum but is being influenced by, and influencing, the context.
This assessment requires you to:
Choose and track a business leader from the media (i.e. newspaper, social media, company press release,
television, radio etc.) within the last 12 months.
More specifically, you are required to:
1. Critically evaluate the leadership approach shown by the leader of your choice
2. Analyse how the leadership approach may have been influenced by varied business contexts.
We are looking to see how you have used credible academic literature to support the analysis of your leader.
In answering the two main questions above, please ensure you cover the following questions in your report:
1. Describe the leader’s traits and behaviours and approaches to leadership.
2. What is it about a particular leadership model or author’s point of view that is coming through in practice with
your leader? Provide examples. Are there any areas that are not coming through or they can improve on?
3. What is the impact of the leadership style/approach on the employee, and overall organisation? (The culture
of the organisation)
4. Does the leader conform more to one particular model of leadership than to another?
5. How does or can the leader develop/influence/empower/motivate leadership in individuals, teams and or the
organisation?
6. How has the leadership approach been influenced by the organisation’s external global and/or local
contextual changes/trends?
