Description
You will write a term paper of about 3000 words that explores a specific topic or question pertaining to the history of nineteenth-century Japan, with a caveat that you may go back further in time to include topics relevant to early modernity in Japan. The aim of this assignment is to gives you the opportunity to 1) engage deeply and critically with a specific dimension of Japanese history during this period, and 2) develop your own coherent thought on a historical problem, which you will articulate, discuss, and explain in your paper.
