Is our technology taking us closer to the dystopian world depicted in 1984?
In a well-organized, carefully written, well-developed, and well-supported essay, you will use evidence from 1984 and two other reputable texts to address one of four prompts. Regardless of the prompt you choose, you will be making arguments about what happens in the novel and what it means, as well as what happens in real life in our own world. There are connections between these two kinds of arguments: the scenes, events, and ideas from the novel can be used to illustrate and exemplify arguments about the real world. Just be careful not to argue that because something happens in a novel that proves it can happen in the real world.
Make note that the prompts are NOT necessarily literary response prompts. What I mean by that is that you are writing about themes in Orwell’s 1984, but you are NOT writing solely about the novel. Your expository essay should include current events and articles about them.
