The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to integrate and apply concepts we have
examined in this course. They include various life course issues, ecological/systems perspective, strengths
perspective, risk and protective factors, social, spiritual, environmental, cultural, biological, and/or
psychological issues, etc., etc., etc.
You will be discussing a real person! If you are completing an internship, you may choose a person you have
gotten to know well in that setting, if possible. If not, you may choose a friend or relative. If neither option
works for you, I will give you a story about an actual person to read and use. Your subject should be an adult.
By means of interviews, reflection upon what you know of the person, and other information, think about his/her
“world.” “Paint” a picture of your person and their life so far. Make your narrative interesting to read and show
that you are utilizing concepts from the course. If you like, focus on a particular life transition since these are
often periods of time that illustrate the concepts/theories we have covered. (Change the name or use initials to
protect confidentiality.)
Please think about what you want to say before you start to write. Make yourself a thorough outline to organize
the material you are presenting. This assignment should really serve to help you use the material in a way that
helps prepare you for work with clients or others next year. Please ask me any questions you have.
