Question 2: Technical and Quantitative Aptitude
My passion for studying at Ivey Business School has majorly depended on the understanding of various quantitative analysis tools and technical skills of Business Analytics. As a fourth-year student at the University of Ottawa who majored in Finance, I am well informed of various tools and technical expertise that are not only helpful, but also essential to the completion of this course. One of the tools that I am aware of is OpenRefine. Formerly known as Google Refine, it is a data cleaning application that allows people to have everything ready for the analysis. During my course, I learned that it contains several options of clustering algorithms to handle large and cumbersome files. Another tool is KNIME which allows one to influence, analyze, and change data in an incredibly intuitive manner through the visual programming. Fundamentally, instead of writing blocks of code, one can drop nodes into a canvas and drag it to the connection points between the activities. More importantly, it can be protracted to run text mining, python, and chemistry data which give people the option to experiment in a more advanced code driven analysis. Other tools that I am aware of are Rapidminer, Google Fusion table, and nodeXL. Although I have not fully understood how these tools are being used to solve most of the problems organization are currently facing, joining Ivey school of business will give me an opportunity to not only understand them, but also use them practically in the field. I, therefore, humbly request the selection board to consider my application since I will be a useful asset to the school as well as the community. Other skills that I posses are teamwork and the ability to conduct research on problems that face organizations.

Answer
History of Islam in Spain
Question 1
The Visigoth State was as a military elite who were majorly Arian Christians and believed that a son was not of the same substance as their father. The Visigoths used the Hispano-Romans whose nobles were put in charge of the day to day activities and were also in charge of the collection of taxes on behalf of the main authority. It had two distinctions that were expressed in two law codes. The first was concerned with the Visigoths themselves and was established by Euric, while the second was concerned with the rights of the Hispano-Romans and was established by Alaric II. Visigoth state ruled their possessions from Spain and Southern France. However, this kingdom was later destroyed by the Franks and became a protectorate of the kingdom of Italy. It was later united and established as a state by King Leovigild, but was later destroyed by the Arabs.
Question 2
Al-Andalus is a medieval Islam territory. It mainly covered the present Spain and Portugal. It was governed by Muslims until around 711 who were later overtaken by Christians. The ruling under this kingdom led to exchange of culture between the Christians and the Muslims. Al-Andalus was also a major learning centre for Christians and Muslims in the place. It was also always in conflict with the Christians from the North but it later fell after the fall of the Umayyad caliphate (Dodds, 2009). This led to its subdivisions into small states and principalities. Christian attacks intensified further leading to intervention of the Almoravid Empire. The weak Al-Andalus were then subjected to the Berber rule and it later became a province in the Berber Muslim Empire.
Question 3
The century of the Caliphate was one of conflict and infighting. This comes in when Prophet Muhammad died with no succession. He left behind four successors who all possessed leadership qualities. The Governor of Damascus, Muawiyah, however, took over the office of the Caliph. He found the Umayyad dynasty which was later overthrown by the Abbasid dynasty. One of the Umayyad escaped to the Western side and establishes another caliphate in Spain. The Umayyad attempted to gain supremacy over their fellow Muslims and this resulted to conflicts with their fellow Muslims. Thus, these Muslims fought against themselves with the aim of gaining supremacy over the other. This resulted to constant conflicts and fights amongst themselves.
Question 4
The Medieval Iberian peninsula is divided into two countries; Spain and Portugal (Menocal, 2002). It mainly constitutes the successful Islamic society which is the basis for their fine art heritage. The state of Iberia in the Peninsula constituted the nomads who were mostly the Suevi and the Visigothics. The state was ruled by the Visigoths till it was later invaded by the Muslims and the Berbers. However, the mountain side of the Peninsula was made of Christians. The two religions were in constant fights until the rule of Ferdinand and Isabella who forced the Muslims and Jews to convert to their religion or leave the homeland. This was after the fall of the Iberian Islamic Kingdom of Granada.
I disagree with some statements as stated above. The Muslims and the Jews being forcefully converted to Christian religion denied them the right to worship freely. They were further forced out of their homelands and this was a discriminatory act that separated the Muslims and the Jews from the Christians. The study of architecture and art being divided into Christian, Jewish and Muslim specialties brings out the division of the state.
