Development and presentation of this paper will familiarize the student with new and emerging technology for application in the manufacturing sector. Introduction of new or different technology into a production environment can provide many positive returns if its implementation is well planned. Considerations such as cost, timing, necessary expertise, effect on end product, facility transition, impact on customers, advantages and disadvantages, are all parts of the planning process and must be addressed.
For this research project, the student will select an existing product and find new or emerging technology that may allow it to be produced more inexpensively, with better quality, and over all, provide increased benefit to the company. This can be a new technology or existing technology applied using a different process.
