You are currently working in a financial services firm that offers a variety of services to large
listed companies. Your boss has commissioned you to write a report on the impact of the
coronavirus pandemic on corporate finance. The report would consist of the following
sections:
Executive Summary
Introduction
Impact on Operations
Impact on Corporate Financing
Conclusion
In order to produce a focussed report, your boss has asked you to consider a specific
industry (or a segment of an industry) and one area of a corporate financing decision. Your
clients are concentrated in the following sectors:
Information Technology
Consumer Services
Healthcare
Transportation
Your firm advises clients on the following aspects of corporate finance:
Dividend / stock repurchases
Capital raising (debt/equity)
Risk management (hedging)
Corporate restructuring (M&A, bankruptcy etc.)
Capital Budgeting
Since you have less than 24 hours to complete the report, you decide to choose one sector
and an industry group within that for your analysis. Further to provide concrete analysis,
you try to focus on a specific firm and where relevant look at peer firms.
In the view of your boss, a good report will contain careful analysis backed by research. In
particular, your boss wants to know if she should expect additional businesses to be flowing
to the firm due to the adverse impact of coronavirus pandemic for the affected
firm/industry group/ sector chosen by you. Your report will contain appropriate references
to sources of information (newspapers, journals, internet sources). You may use additional
sources such as Australian securities exchange (https://www.asx.com.au/) or yahoo finance
Australia (https://au.finance.yahoo.com/) etc to get data about share price, financial reports
of the companies to support your report. The total word length of the report is 1500 words
(± 10%). Harvard style referencing should be used.
