Reflexes

Today we discussed reflexes, in particular the withdrawal reflex. In the withdraw reflex, information from the sensory neuron is sent to a motor neuron to elicit contraction of the flexors of the elbow to lead to the withdraw of the upper limb and sensory information such as pain is sent to the brain on the opposite side of the body for processing. Some figures like the one below add additional detail to the withdraw reflex where information is sent "to [the] brain" on the same side. What does this additional information represent?
