QUALITY AND SAFETY IN HEALTHCARE AND NURSING PRACTICE
How will you, as a future DNP-prepared nurse, keep patients safe? This is a multi-layered question with many different answers. Yet, it is important to note that as the nurse leader, quality and safety measures are at the forefront of how you deliver nursing practice. +400 words, citation format is MLA.
I also plan on taking an active role in advocating for patient safety by attending organizational committees such as risk management or safety departments. Additionally, this may include checking in with colleagues or interprofessional team members regarding any potential risks they see while caring for their respective populations. This can help identify areas where we need more education or resources surrounding specific topics related to health care delivery or patient safety initiatives so steps can be taken within our organization to prevent further harm or incidents from happening.
Furthermore, utilizing data and analytics within my practice helps drive decision making towards improving quality of care outcomes while ensuring optimal levels of safety measures are met. Data collected through clinical databases can provide estimates into how certain interventions have worked over time compared with control groups in order to determine expected values based on various scenarios occurring during care delivery phases such as diagnosis coding accuracy rate (Hill et al., 2019). Combining this knowledge with other variables like understanding hospital policies are essential components needed when formulating plans around reducing medical errors (Hill et al., 2019) . Moreover using predictive modeling can assist us in forecasting hospital wide trends so that prevention strategies can be implemented early on before an incident occurs (Maddox & Clark , 2020).
Lastly but equally important is leading collaborative teams across various settings from acute care hospitals all the way down nursing homes which require effective communication among all parties involved at regular intervals (Fowler et al., 2018). For example facilitating check ins among team members such medications updates allows everyone participating in a particular case understand what has changed since their last engagement thus allowing them to make adjustments accordingly if necessary(Fowler et al., 2018). Having open lines of communication amongst those involved provides support throughout different transitioning phases thereby decreasing transfer times between departments; this could potentially decrease negative events due insufficient interval passage periods (Fowler et al., 2018).
In conclusion my role as a future DNP prepared nurse includes many responsibilities most importantly upholding high levels of quality and patient centeredness while actively promoting safe practices throughout all facets of healthcare delivery model . By staying abreast with new developments pertaining policy changes , continuingto advocate for improved protocols alongwith proper utilization analytics ensures safer environments conducive towards positive results enhancing both wellbeing provider staff relations alike
