1. Read the article entitled Care Perceptions of Residents in Long Term Facility (LTC) Facilities
Purporting to Offer Person-Centered Care by Donnelly & Macentee (2016).
2. All seven of the care homes studied for this article are in Canada. As you
read the results outlining how the residents perceived the care, notice your
reactions and think about the questions below.
3. Write a paper addressing the research and reflection areas below.
• Research
o Describe Person-Centered Care (PCC) and supports with current
[published within the last 5 years] North American literature.
o Discuss three specific strategies or ideas that Practical Nurses can
implement to support PCC in a residential care home.
o Outline two standards of practice as reported by the Canadian
Gerontological Nursing Association and briefly discuss how they
support PCC in a residential care home.
• Reflection
o Describe your thoughts and feelings if you or a loved one had
experienced the care as described in the article
o How do you think this article will change the way you will practice
when you graduate? Explain.
