Why some conflict is essential to effective team problem-solving? How have you solved conflict on teams you’ve been on at work or school?
Some conflict is essential to effective team problem-solving because it encourages divergent thinking, drives creativity and innovation in the workplace, and creates an opportunity for debate. Conflict also allows team members to learn from each other by engaging in meaningful dialogue.
I have solved conflict on teams I have been on at work or school by actively listening to all of the different perspectives being expressed and attempting to identify common ground that could be used as a starting point for finding a resolution. Additionally, I’ve tried to focus on understanding rather than simply defending my position, while also keeping things civil. Finally, if necessary, I try to suggest potential compromises that could benefit everyone involved.
