Choose one of the readings for Unit 1 and pair it with a current event that relates to it somehow. Using the two together, form an argument. For example, an assigned article about hyperbolic rhetoric in the media could be paired with a news article about Trump’s hyperbolic rhetoric, and an argument could be made that Trump is furthering the argument made by the author.

For another example, Martin Luther King Jr’s, “Letter from a Birmingham Jail” could be paired with a news article about a Black Lives Matter protest, and you could argue that the rhetoric Dr. King used outlines the same problems discussed by Black Lives Matter (or, of course that BLM is out of sync with Dr. King’s writing- it’s your choices, so long as it’s solid argument.) These are just examples; feel free to do whatever you like.
