Legal Aspects of Nursing Practice
In the United States Nurses are held accountable for their practices. In the USA every State has a Board of Nursing that regulates nursing practice, therefore the rules are not uniform across state lines. In your opinion should laws governing nursing practice be standardized across the country ? If you answer yes or no, tell me why. Include references citation in text is APA, +600 WORDS
Standardized regulations between states allows for reciprocity with licensure from other locations which makes it easier for nurses to move from one state to another without having to go through a lengthy process every time they make changes within their career paths (Smith & Sprosser 2018). This offers great support for military families who often move frequently due to changing assignments as well as travelers who might want temporary employment in different areas during their careers(Smith & Sprosser 2018; Hall et al., 2019).
By creating consistent standards between states regarding nurse-patient ratios it also helps promote patient safety nationwide(Smith & Sprosser 2018; Hall et al., 2019). When there are no set guidelines concerning how many patients one nurse can see at once these decisions tend to fall under the discretion of individual hospitals or medical facilities making them subject varied interpretations depending upon location(Hall et al., 2019)).Creating uniformity with these types of situations holds hospitals accountable when setting maximum numbers per staff member thereby allowing staff members better protection against potential burnout due long hours resulting from unsafe staffing levels.(Smith & Sprosser 2018)
Another benefit derived from standardized laws surrounding nursing regulation involves increased confidence among employers looking to hire nurses from out of state.(Hall et al., 2019) With consistent guidelines surrounding credential verification processes employers know what documentations will suffice ahead time when considering applicants regardless if those candidates come form outside sources.(Hall et al., 2019)
Based on the evidence presented here we can see that there are numerous advantages associated with creating uniform provisions related applied nurse regulations across all US territories.(Smith & Sprosser 2018; Hall et al., ) Having everyone playing by same sets rules serves not only nurses but citizens at large since higher level assurance concerning healthcare quality is provided throughout our entire nation.
