Conclusion

For this presentation, we will be discussing Mike Tyson’s crimes, incarceration experience, and potential alternative punishment or correctional options.
Mike Tyson was an American professional boxer born in 1966 who rose to fame for his boxing prowess in the 1980s and 1990s. In 1992 he was convicted by an Indiana jury on one count of rape and two counts of criminal deviate conduct after allegations that he had raped Desiree Washington, a beauty pageant contestant. He served three years with four months off for good behavior at Indiana Reception Diagnostic Correctional Facility (IRDCF), which is a medium security state prison located outside Indianapolis, Indiana.

The type of facility he was sent to was determined by factors such as the severity and nature of his crime as well as other possible extenuating circumstances surrounding it. IRDCF offers minimum-to-maximum security housing units and programs designed to reduce recidivism while providing inmates with educational and self-improvement opportunities intended to prepare them for successful reintegration into their communities upon release. In terms of effectiveness, research shows that prisons are costly but can be effective when they focus on rehabilitation efforts over punitive measures due to better outcomes post release such as lower recidivism rates compared to those who did not receive rehabilitative programming while incarcerated (Anderson & Austin 2019).

In comparison to other types correctional facilities like jails, IRDCF is considered more secure because it holds individuals convicted from more serious offenses than jails which typically house people awaiting trial or serving short sentences for minor offenses including misdemeanors or violations such as traffic tickets (Alarid & Ortiz 2016). As a result, IRDCF has more resources available for mental health care services than most local jails do meaning it may have provided some form of rehabilitative therapy during Mike Tyson’s stay there although no details about any specific programming were found in public records related to his sentence period .

If Mike Tyson’s crimes were different then he might have been sentenced differently by being assigned community service hours working with youth groups focusing on anti-violence issues instead being incarcerated at IRDCF like he actually did serve his sentence out there which would have allowed him contribute positively back into society without having spent time behind bars thus possibly benefiting both himself through working towards social change through constructive work experience as well as helping others learn how destructive violence can be ultimately saving lives instead perpetrating criminality within communities (Durham 2017).

Correctional professionals play multiple roles when it comes to cases similar to Mike Tysons’; they are responsible for conducting assessments prior sentencing so they can determine risk levels depending on factors such mental illness status if present which helps them decide what type institution someone should go based off these findings . They also ensure safe custody , care ,and control throughout the offender’s time spent at the institution making sure order is maintained throughout all offenders’ entire stays whether short term or long term that way everyone inside remains safe eliminating any chances disorder breaking out within premises (Robinson & Petersilia 2018).

Alternative forms punishment/corrections allow us offer rehabilitation geared toward diverting offenders away from engaging behavior where reoffending occurs frequently sometimes even leading up longer sentences than desired if nothing else worked previously setting up cycle incarcerations potentially costing taxpayers much money unnecessariy amounting hundreds thousands dollars per individual additional risk posed public safety since hardcore criminals still remain large threat outside since many often return making streets far less secure causing people fear walking around freely due lack trust overall sense safety reducing quality lives those living these areas negatively impacting development our country long run(Stohr 2010)..

To conclude our presentation today I want you remember importance recognizing differences between correction institutions discuss earlier taking preventive measures make sure don’t end up non violent offenders prisons overcrowded harsh environments unable access necessary resources assist them getting back track reforming bad habits changing paths become productive members society again despite wrongdoings committed past allowing find ways break free vicious cycles cut down taxpayer burden much needed funds used other areas requires attention desperately key maintaining balanced lifestyle healthy communities everybody resides peacefully happy life!
