Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS): CMS is a federal agency within the United States Department of Health and Human Services that administers Medicare, Medicaid, Children's Health Insurance Program (CHIP), Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments (CLIA), Electronic Health Record Incentive programs and various other health care related programs throughout the United States. It is responsible for providing oversight on all aspects of these programs including determining payment rates for services rendered under them; issuing regulations related to their operation; conducting research on their effectiveness; administering quality assurance activities; and making sure that providers adhere to program requirements when providing services under them .
