Determine how your institution will address issues of patient confidentiality and informed consent, including programs to educate staff on issues of patient confidentiality. Contemplate the increased use of computerized databases and electronic means of communication and the impact these will have on the issue of patient confidentiality. Draft an outline of your institution’s policy on patient confidentiality and your plan for staff education. Additionally, answer the following questions with regard to your outlined plan: a. How does your confidentiality policy compare with other health care institutions? b. How will you ensure that your policy complies with HIPAA regulations? c. What consequences will result from employees violating such a policy?
