Faith and feeling

While many of the thinkers of the Enlightenment thought that faith and feeling distorted attempts to know truth the Romantics felt that a strict adherence to a rational standard of truth destroyed emotion and the value of feelings. To what extent should an individual consider their own genuine feelings when they are experiencing the world and trying to understand reality?
