Don't Sleep There Are Snakes

Daniel Everett’s book Don’t Sleep There are Snakes is a rich ethnographic account of Piraha life that focuses
heavily on the intersection of language and culture. Using Everett’s book as your repository of ‘data,’ write a 7-
10 page essay that critically explores Piraha life and language from one or more of the perspectives we have
dealt with this semester (Metaphor, Linguistic Relativity, Sociolinguistics, Language Change, Storytelling, etc.).
Be very clear about the intent of your essay and make sure to link Everett’s work to our other course materials
in clear ways. I want you to demonstrate to me that you can use what you have learned in the course to
analyze and better understand an actual, ethnographic case study
