After watching the YouTube video Analysing Forensic Evidence | The Laboratory
(https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=68Y-OamcTJ8), posted by Wellcome Collection, consider that evidence
containing DNA needs to be considered in the context in which it is found. Review what DNA can and cannot
tell investigators (refer to Chapter 5 of the textbook). DNA evidence can be collected from a variety of surfaces.
1. Develop a scenario where DNA evidence might be discovered. Include your DNA evidence in the scenario.
2. Using the FBI’s Handbook of Forensic Services, determine the proper procedure for documenting, collecting,
and preserving the DNA evidence from the scene to the evidence locker. Include instructions regarding how to
properly store this evidence.
4. What steps are necessary to ensure that your evidence will be legally admissible in court?
5. How reliable is DNA? DNA has served to reverse convictions and free convicted prisoners. If you were a
juror, could you convict a rapist without DNA evidence? What about crimes other than rape?
