Data Scientists responsibility ensuring technologies are used positively

What responsibility do Data Scientists have for ensuring that technologies are used positively and not distorted to negatively reshape society? As a group, construct an argument that explores whether the problem is with the technology or the human who is designing/implementing/using the technology? That is if a technology is agnostic what processes distort it? Describe how a seemingly ‘objective’ technology can reinforce racism, sexism, or other forms of inequality. Each group should have one example to support the description. How do systems make “users” complicit in the politics of exploitation and oppression?
