Dante and Chaucer

    Dante and Chaucer both insert themselves into their poems as characters. Compare and contrast the way that they do this—how they choose to portray themselves, and what kind of character traits each has. For example, as characters, what are Dante and Chaucer’s respective attitudes toward sin and vice? Do their attitudes change or develop over the course of their respective poems? How and why?
