Receiving proper health care is especially important for those who have developmental disabilities because they often have a variety of physical or mental impairments which can lead to potential complications if left untreated (Kaminski et al., 2018). For instance, some individuals may need specialized medical treatments due to various conditions such as cerebral palsy or autism spectrum disorder (ASD) (Gomez-Lobo et al., 2016). Additionally, many people with developmental disabilities are more prone than others in the general population towards developing chronic illnesses such as diabetes or heart disease due age related health risks compounded by lack of mobility or behavior issues arising from development disability impairments like intellectual delays or communication difficulties (Bassuk et al., 2019). Without proper monitoring these conditions can quickly worsen without proper intervention resulting in potentially long term impairment(s), increased health costs associated with hospitalizations  or even death(Kanter & Nesset-Saleh et al., 2015).

The role of case managers is critical in ensuring that individuals receive necessary preventative screenings like mammograms or flu shots which can be easily overlooked due time constraints or complex insurance rules(Neuhausen et al., 2016). In addition they serve as advocates for their clients so that when problems arise which might impede access to services – i.e denial by insurers–they can intervene and resolve any barriers before serious harm occurs(Haimowitzetal2018) . Through regular contact between client/family members and case managers any changes in condition along with new additional challenges encountered during daily living activities can be identified quickly allowing for corrective interventions prior making situations worse over time.(Delaney& Hulland2017) A key concept underlying effective casework practice is active engagement so that both parties become partners working together towards addressing common challenges.(Finn2019) Utilizing open lines of communication between all involved parties allows necessary information exchange while at same time creating trust within relationship fostering safe environment whereinterventionsare introduced addressed promptly effectively leading positive outcomes improving overall QOL.(Mansoori&Sadrpour2016)
