Animal consciousness

      Give examples of two stories where the author provides language for a dog or cat “talking” or “thinking.” Does the author attempt to imagine animal consciousness, or is the voice thoroughly human? As a reader, do you find this “animal speak” insightful, meaningful, moving, silly and/or entertaining? The two stories for this question are Saki "Tobermory" and Anton Chekhov, "Kashtanka"
