Mark Kelly’s entrance into politics came most recently when he announced his campaign for Senator Martha McSally’s seat back in February 2019(CNN Politics 2019). Before that however, Kelly enjoyed an incredibly successful career outside office which included graduating from The US Naval Academy before beginning service aboard multiple US Navy vessels., assignment at NASA’s Johnson Space Center where he worked on astronaut training and eventually becoming mission commander aboard Space Shuttle Endeavor—all accomplishments that made him one of America’s most decorated veteran astronauts(Kelly For Senate Campaign Website 2020). Although there isn’t much available about what type of policy platform Kelly intends to run on once elected other than vowing “to stand up for working families” by advocating for better access to healthcare , education reform , increasing minimum wage , reducing student loan debt etc.(Huntley 2020), he does have strong support behind him due to his experience and popularity within Arizona which could serve him well come election day if he can build off those traits throughout his campaigning process .
