In Federalist #39 James Madison (writing as Publius) defines what republican government is in contrast to the
practices and theories of others. In Federalist #43 he writes about one particular threat to the perpetuation of a
republican form of government, and in #46 he writes about a different particular threat. What are those threats
to republican government and what are the solutions in Federalist #43 and #46?
