Airworthiness Determination Form
The ADF provides the first step in determining the scope of the airworthiness effort, the approach, the initial phases of the certification basis, along with an assessment of the potential risks.
The goal of this activity is to develop the awareness that an airworthiness approach to certification needs to be determined as early as possible.
Since the risk of design is something that DoD customers can choose to accept, an early look at the design and what potential risks need to be mitigated and design aspects that will result in residual risks.
Completing this task provides a mechanism to consider a phased approach to which criteria are to be considered before you build the Basis of Certification
WHAT WILL YOU ACCOMPLISH
Review the ADF-516C template and familiarize yourself with the sections of the document as discussed in the Airworthiness Determination Form (PPTX) Download Airworthiness Determination Form (PPTX) presentation.
Review the functions and design of the system and begin to write a system description – this should largely be a cut and paste exercise with any design assumptions you made in order to complete the assignment. You are free to make any design assumptions you'd like but document them. You will use the same system descriptions in the ADF, Basis of Certification (refer to the 'System Description' worksheet in the Certification Basis template), and your Airworthiness Plan.
