Part 1.
Describe the Greenhouse effect. What are the primary greenhouse gases and how are they thought to “trap” heat on Earth?
Part 2.
To prepare :
Use the EPA Web site -http://eo.ucar.edu/kids/green/cycles6.htm
to review the standards for air quality brought about by the Clean Air Act that have resulted in effective new technological means to reduce pollution.
Review the following web sites on the carbon cycle, carbon dioxide levels in the atmosphere, and the greenhouse effect:

Consider that air quality monitoring by independent organizations has recorded a decrease in most pollutants.
Reflect on how you can actively bring more environmental awareness to your family and friends.
Answer the following:
What are the some of the ways you think the global human population can reduce the amount of atmospheric pollution. Do you think international treaties to reduce carbon emissions can be effective? Would you advocate for such a treaty even if the prices on some overseas food products would increase? Do you think that national governments should invest in mass transit systems? Should people who drive large trucks and SUVs, which contribute more atmospheric emissions, pay a usage or pollution tax? How about large industrial polluters? Suggest ways in which we can help reduce emissions from SUVs or propose alternatives that you find feasible. What ideas can you think of to encourage people to meet standards that result in effectively lowering the amount of carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide, sulfur dioxide, nitrogen oxides, and hydrocarbons released into the environment?
