My long-term career goal is become a physician specializing in family practice or public health medicine so that I can use my skills and knowledge acquired through years of study and practice to help underserved populations access quality healthcare services they might otherwise not receive due to economic factors or lack of education on healthcare topics. Additionally, I am interested in engaging in policy work related healthcare reform because it will allow me combine both clinical experience along with activism towards improved patient outcomes overall.
When evaluating special circumstances that should be considered during scholarship consideration process, it is important note that although most applicants who apply come from similar backgrounds there are always unique life experiences which shape one’s perspective regarding medicine more than any other formative experiences can does . As a member of several minority communities (African American/Black & LGBTQ+), these identities inform much of my understanding around privilege , intersectionality ,and access within the context of medicine . Although this isn't necessarily actively displayed on paper, having these intersecting identities have impacted m y trajectory towards becoming a physician . This ongoing journey navigating privilege mixed between multiple identities continue s guide many decisions when aligning myself both professionally personally within medical circles .
