Historical Influences:
The ratification of the United States Constitution was a result of a long history and background. The earliest contributions to the document began during the American Revolution, when several state constitutions were formed as well as the Articles of Confederation (National Archives, n.d.). These documents served as early drafts for what would eventually become modern day U.S. constitution. Additionally, some of these earlier materials drew from English common law sources such as Magna Carta and other precedents set by various British monarchs (Phillips, 2016). This helped to shape many key aspects within our nation’s founding document including those related to separation of powers and human rights (Farrand, 1913). Furthermore, historical events such as Bacon’s Rebellion in 1676 had a particularly strong influence on how slavery was addressed in our constitution (Gutman & Gutman 2000). All together this lengthy history informed America’s system of government which is still used today.
Philosophical Influences:
Finally philosophical influences also played an important role shaping many aspects within U.S Constitution itself especially those involving civil liberties ( Phillips 2016) . For instance Thomas Jefferson’s Declaration of Independence defined liberty “as life ,liberty ,and pursuit happiness” helping form basis for Bill Rights later added into Constitution through amendments.. Economic factors certainly played roles influencing formation US constitution too most notably regarding power relations between large ,small states .
