You are writing a book on Irish films (those shown in our course).
You are sending your book proposal to publishers and you need to convince them that they should publish your
book.
The proposal will include
- A book title (which reflects the book’s content and focus) 2 point
- A discussion of your expertise to write the book and your previous relevant publications (if any) 200 words.*
7 points - A description of the book and its focus (it is not just a book describing movies; it will have to have some
angle/focus/argument). 200 words, 7 points - A summary of the potential readers (the publisher will need to make a profit), 50- 100 words, 3 points
- List of contents: your book should include a list of chapters, introduction, conclusion, and index. This chapter
outline will have chapter titles and numbers (you decide on the number of chapters). Your chapter titles should
have more than just the name of a movie/movies in the title. It should have a short description of the chapter’s
content/focus. One to two pages, 7 points. - A blurb for the back of the book written by another expert who is praising the book and saying why people
should buy it. 50-100 words. 4 points
You will be evaluated on creativity, content, quality of writing, lack of errors, and how persuasive you are that
the publisher should publish your book. You will also be evaluated on how well your proposal demonstrates
your familiarity with Irish films, as presented in the course.
*You can invent your qualifications, expertise, and previous publications (even your name as an author). Do not
invent movies, or historical, cultural and factual context of the movies and the time they are set in.
Makes sure you answer all sections, and you number each section as above. Remember how you should refer
to movies (title in italics, followed by director and year not in italics).
