Healthy and Active Over the Age of 80: Can We Do It?
Why do some countries differ in life expectancy? What factors contribute to healthy aging? Healthy aging is not
synonymous with individuals who are free from illness. Factors such as the environment, economic
opportunities, cultural patterns, beliefs, and staying active can all influence healthy aging. Active aging allows
individuals to realize their full potential for physical, social, and mental well-being, as they participate in society
(WHO, 2006).
For this Discussion, review the Learning Resources and the media provided for this week. Consider the
concept of active aging and how it might differ between countries. Also, reflect on health programs or social
services aimed at promoting healthy aging
