As Britain grew as a country, and London grew as a central location for trade and merchants, the working
conditions became harsh for factory workers. Similarly, the various wars left Britain and her people financially
unstable and unable to find proper housing, food, and healthcare. Therefore, the government created many
programs to help people in need. Welfare programs exist today to help people get back on their feet in terms of
housing, food, and healthcare, but many people do not share the same views regarding the programs in place
today.
